Louisiana Medicaid Announces Immediate Changes to Managed Care Plans Affecting Aetna Better Health and UnitedHealthcare Members

Date: December 2025

The Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) has announced a major change impacting Medicaid recipients across the state. LDH has terminated its Medicaid Managed Care contracts with Aetna Better Health of Louisiana and UnitedHealthcare Community Plan, placing coverage for hundreds of thousands of members—including many of our clients—into an immediate transition process.

This change is effective January 1, 2026.

What This Means for Our Clients

If you are currently enrolled with Aetna Better Health or UnitedHealthcare Community Plan, you must select a new Medicaid health plan (MCO) to avoid interruption of care.

The remaining approved Medicaid Managed Care Organizations in Louisiana are:

Louisiana Healthcare Connections
Healthy Blue
AmeriHealth Caritas
Humana Healthy Horizons

Divine Intervention Rehabilitation, LLC is credentialed with all four remaining plans.

While each client is free to choose the option that best fits their needs, we strongly recommend Louisiana Healthcare Connections or Healthy Blue for the smoothest transition of services.
